We now live in South West France near the beautiful town of Argenton Chateau.
From a very early age, I was involved with showing ponies, riding lead rein and later on showing yearling and two year olds in hand. So you might say showing was in my blood. My husbands aunt, Pat Shaw and cousin Janet Wood of "Ardencote" fame show English Springer Spaniels and Greyhounds with many champions to their credit. It was their influence that steered me towards showing dogs.
I was first introduced to the Afghan Hound in 1974, when I purchased a
black masked gold bitch, bred by Marilyn Harris, Gilzye Azuree, her
Sire was CH.Amudarya the Pagan,
her dam Gilzye Andromeda, who was mainly Khanabad nd Horningsea lines.
'Azuree' had a successful show career, with many good wins and was my first stud book entry. We then acquired our second, this time a black & silver male, he was to become our first big winner Champion Saxonmill Blackcurrant,
bred by Roberta Hall, from Karnak
and Sacheverell lines, going back to Amudarya and Horningsea.
Blackcurrant gained his title at 2 years.
We mated Blackcurrant to Azuree
which produced our first homebred Champion born 29/2/84
the black & silver -
a prolific Best of Breed
and Best in Show winner.
Blackcurrant was retired from the showring at 3 years of age to continue his career as a stud dog, producing 13 Champions at home in the U.K. and overseas.
His list of awards cover many years, beginning in 1987 with
Our Dogs/Pedigree pet foods top Afghan Stud Dog.
North Light top Stud Dog for 1991/1992/1993.
In addition to his Champion progeny there are also many C.C. winners and
R.C.C. winners, altogether amassing over 80- C.C.'s & over 50 R.C.C.'s.
I have continued along these lines with success for many years, occasionally introducing American and Scandinavian lines.
At present I am showing a brindle bitch - Khamis With Attitude to Sanstas
born 10/2/2003, bred by June Leitch, a combination of American,Scandinavian and British lines.
I Judge at Championship show level and awarded my first set of C.C.'s in 1991 at Border Union show in Kelso. Since then I have awarded a further five sets and looking forward to my next.
